Handmade tiles create unique homes

There are many reasons to choose handmade tiles over machine-made ones. A material crafted by hand possesses a tactile feel and character that machine-made products can never replicate. Each handmade tile is an expression of solid craftsmanship, tradition, and history. From clay to finished product, the tile undergoes a meticulous process where it is shaped, glazed, and fired before adorning your home.

What is handmade tile?

Tiles are glazed terracotta slabs. Our 001 and 005 collections are crafted by hand through a meticulous process that begins with the clay being processed and shaped. Then, molds are created for wet-pressing, a method where the clay mass contains water when the tiles are formed.

The clay mass is pressed and cut into the desired shape before the tiles are allowed to dry, allowing moisture to slowly evaporate. The result is a vibrant, timeless tile with soft variations and a lot of character.

Our handmade tiles are traditionally fired twice: once when the clay is raw and once after the tile has been glazed. This not only gives the tile outstanding quality but also imparts a beautiful depth to the color and allows for endless color variations. This is why the shade between different batches always varies slightly. This is completely natural and adds unique value to the tile.

After the first firing, the tile is glazed by hand. The glaze gives the tile a dense matte or glossy surface. Other finishes can also be achieved, such as craquelure, cracked glaze, or semi-transparent.

Creating a home with soft values

We believe that certain materials have a unique ability to spread energy, joy, and warmth in a home. By choosing handmade materials, you can easily introduce these feelings into your home and create an atmosphere that feels exclusive, vibrant, and personal.
